Pilmico Animal Nutrition Corporation, through Pilmico Farms, was recognized for its steadfast commitment to environmental sustainability, receiving two sustainability awards from the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PCAPI). During the awarding ceremony held in Cagayan de Oro City on May 7, 2025, Christy Gawidan received the Outstanding Pollution Control Officer (TOPCO) award, while Pilmico’s Biogas System earned the Success Story Award.

Christy Gawidan, Safety and Environment Senior Supervisor from the Farms Division, was recognized for her leadership in driving effective and impactful environmental programs. She has championed several initiatives focused on environmental stewardship, such as tree planting, clean-up drives, and internal sustainability awareness campaigns.

Additionally, Pilmico received the Success Story Award for its “Utilization of Renewable Energy through Biogas System”, which showcased its renewable energy initiatives across its farms. The company’s story submission to the award-giving body highlighted Pilmico’s biogas system, which converts hog manure into biogas—an efficient, renewable fuel used to generate electricity for farm operations.

Since the project launched in 2010, Pilmico highlights that its biogas system has helped reduce methane emissions, divert waste from landfills, and decrease the facility’s reliance on fossil fuels. In 2024 alone, the biogas system has generated 13% of the farm’s electricity needs, avoiding 3.63 tCO₂e in potent greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a total energy cost savings of ₱1.9 million.

Gawidan emphasized that the award represents just a fraction of a broader commitment to sustainability. “We are committed to caring for the environment. This recognition only highlights one aspect of our wider sustainability,” she shared. “It motivates us to push further—to reduce our carbon footprint and continue to partner with communities and government agencies to restore forests and protect natural habitat.”

DELIVERING SUSTAINABLE IMPACT WITH EVERY MEAL
These awards reflect Pilmico’s vital role in advancing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives and support “everymeal”, the sustainability campaign of Aboitiz Foods. “Sustainability is a shared responsibility. By working together and educating others, we help protect the planet,” Gawidan added.

Through everymeal, Aboitiz Foods champions a holistic, mill-to-meal approach to responsibly feeding Asia’s growth, according to the announcement. Initiatives such as Pilmico’s biogas system and environmental stewardship programs demonstrate how sustainable practices are embedded throughout the entire food value chain, reinforcing the company’s vision of creating shared value for communities, stakeholders, and the environment.
