Harbro Limited has agreed a deal to acquire J&W Tait’s feed and fertiliser sales business. The acquisition will strengthen Harbro’s presence in Orkney, and expand customer support.

Scottish-based feed producer Harbro Limited has reached an agreement with J&W Tait, based in Orkney, Scotland, to acquire its feed and fertiliser sales operations, effective from 1 March 2026. The company states that this strategic acquisition strengthens its position within the industry and provides access to a key location, enhancing the company’s ability to support customers and extend its market reach.
“This acquisition is an important step in our growth strategy. By integrating the feed and fertiliser business of J&W Tait into our operations, we gain greater access to the area and can deliver an even wider range of solutions to the Orkney farming and rural community,” says Chris Baxter, CEO of Harbro.
As part of this integration, the existing team at the Kirkwall site will join Harbro as it assumes responsibility for feed and fertiliser sales from that location. Furthermore, Harbro will broaden its range of available products and services, giving customers a wider choice and greater access to nutritional support.
This move will bring a direct supply to Orkney farmers from Harbro as a core manufacturer of compound feed, blends, mineral buckets and blocks. Harbro will also bring its wider product portfolio and buying power to benefit the Orkney farming community. The company notes that it continues to invest in the North of Scotland and the Islands and has a state-of-the-art feed mill in Inverness, which is well located to do this.
