Alexandra de Athayde, Executive Director of the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF), has been appointed as the new Chair of the Steering Committee of the FAO LEAP Partnership.

The FAO Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (LEAP) Partnership has announced the appointment of Alexandra de Athayde, Executive Director of the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF), as the new Chair of the Steering Committee of the FAO LEAP Partnership.
De Athayde brings extensive international experience in agriculture, feed and trade. In her role at IFIF, she represents the global feed sector in key international settings, including the FAO, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the Codex Alimentarius. She also serves on the Steering Committee of the International Cooperation for the Convergence of Technical Requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF).
Her career spans leadership positions across Brazil, the United States, and Europe, where she has worked closely with both public institutions and the private sector. De Athayde previously served as Adviser to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and to the Foreign Trade Secretary in Brazil. She holds an International Executive MBA from the University of Pittsburgh in the US and a BA in International Relations from York University in Canada.
Alexandra de Athayde succeeds former chair Peter Ettema, New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries, who has chaired the FAO LEAP Steering Committee since mid-2024.
The FAO LEAP Partnership expressed its appreciation to Ettema for his strong dedication and contributions and welcomed Alexandra de Athayde as the new Chair to lead the next phase of LEAP’s initiatives in promoting sustainable livestock transformation worldwide.
