“Opening our pet-dedicated plant in Spain is a major step forward in supporting our pet food customers,” said Eduardo Alberto, CEO of Trouw Nutrition. “Expanding our European footprint strengthens reliability, proximity and capacity—ensuring the consistent, high-quality nutrient blends Trouw Nutrition is known for across the world.”
The Griñón plant operates under controlled processes and hygiene conditions, designed to meet the high standards of today’s premium pet food industry and the increasing demands of tomorrow. The facility is FSSC 22000 certified, a globally recognised standard for strong food safety management, and has full traceability, reinforcing robust food safety and quality assurance systems across the supply chain. It also operates as a ZERO‑CO₂‑emissions facility powered entirely by renewable electricity and supports responsible sourcing through the plant’s Sedex membership.
With the new dedicated pet premix facility in Spain, Trouw Nutrition now has two pet-dedicated production sites in Europe, complementing its existing plant in Ashbourne, UK. This strengthened network provides enhanced contingency, supply security, and flexibility for customers across the region.

“Pet food requires precision, safety and deep nutritional expertise,” said Vicky Brierley, Pet Technical and Nutrition Manager at Trouw Nutrition. “This new pet‑dedicated facility enables us to deliver the high-accuracy, consistent premix formulations required across all types of pet food. It represents an exciting step forward for our customers and for the future of pet nutrition.”
“Pet is a strategic growth pillar for Nutreco, and this investment reflects our long‑term commitment to the Companion Animal business. Strengthening our dedicated pet production footprint enables us to support our customers with greater capacity, flexibility and expertise—while continuing to invest in the people, capabilities and innovation needed to shape the future of pet nutrition globally,” said Myrthe Vervoort, Regional Director EMEA – Companion Animal.
The new Griñón plant reinforces Trouw Nutrition’s long-term commitment to advancing the nourishment of the world’s pets and supports continued growth in the global pet food market. The facility is now fully operational and ready to supply high‑quality, safe, and reliable premix solutions to the European pet food industry.
