Skretting, one of the global leaders in the manufacture and supply of aquaculture feeds, has announced the partnering with Zooca Calanus to develop innovative and sustainable nutritional solutions for LifeStart.
Skretting, one of the global leaders in providing innovative and sustainable nutritional solutions for the aquaculture industry, has announced a new partnership with Zooca Calanus, one of the leading innovators in sustainable marine ingredients. This partnership aims to provide innovative and sustainable nutritional solutions by leveraging Zooca Calanus’ expertise in harvesting and processing Calanus finmarchicus, a tiny marine copepod rich in essential nutrients.
With over 10 years of prior collaboration, Skretting and Zooca Calanus will now work together to develop high-quality, nutritionally optimised feeds using Calanus-based ingredients and whole fresh canned copepods. These solutions will enhance the health and growth of farmed aquatic species while promoting sustainable practices within the aquaculture sector.
By harnessing the natural benefits of Calanus finmarchicus, both companies are committed to advancing the performance of the target species sustainably and responsibly.
NEW STANDARDS FOR NUTRITION, HEALTH, AND SUSTAINABILITY
“We are excited to embark on this journey with Zooca Calanus,” said Hassan Skøien, Shrimp Innovation Director at Skretting. “This partnership represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to the aquaculture industry. By combining Skretting’s expertise in aquafeed formulation with Zooca Calanus’ unique marine ingredients, we aim to set new standards for nutrition, health, and sustainability in aquaculture.”
“Calanus is an abundant resource. Incorporating it into our diets allows us to diversify marine ingredients and provides employment opportunities for local fishing communities during their low season,” said Eamonn O’Brien, Global Product Manager of LifeStart at Skretting.
THE PRESERVATION OF OUR OCEANS AND MARINE ECOSYSTEMS
Hogne Abrahamsen, CSO of Zooca Calanus group, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are proud to partner with Skretting, a company known for its commitment to quality and sustainability. Together, we will harness the “nature baby food” power of Calanus finmarchicus to create feeds that not only enhance aquatic health but also contribute to the preservation of our oceans and marine ecosystems.”
This partnership aligns with both companies’ dedication to driving positive change in the aquaculture industry and underscores their shared vision for a more sustainable future. Skretting and Zooca Calanus explained that they look forward to introducing these innovative products to the market and making a lasting impact on the global aquaculture landscape.
