Spanish pet food manufacturer Nugape, which exports its products to more than 40 countries, has unveiled that it has obtained the IFS Food certification, the most demanding certification of quality and safety in the food industry.

Nugape Pet Food has obtained the prestigious IFS Food certification, which consolidates the manufacturer as one of the most important companies in Spain in its sector, guaranteeing that its quality and safety protocols are as demanding as those applied to products for human consumption.
From its factory in Vilanova de Arousa (northwest of Spain), Nugape exports its products to more than 40 countries. With more than 50 people on staff and a commitment to local, quality raw materials, its brands include Cebican, Sandegal, Danna, and Dousti, with a strong presence in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
Nugape already has some of the main safety certifications, such as the IFS Global Market, or continuous quality analysis technologies, such as the NIR, but the IFS Food represents a very relevant milestone in its history, placing it among the chosen global group of pet food producing companies that demonstrate safety, quality, and traceability protocols equivalent to those of human food.
To obtain the certificate, AENOR’s —the prestigious Spanish certification firm– independent auditors have supervised for months the company’s governance and commitment processes, quality and safety, resource management, operational processes, and measurements and analysis of all its products. The IFS is an independent organisation and IFS Food is globally recognised for ensuring excellence in quality and safety in food manufacturing. It guarantees that the manufacturer produces safe, authentic, and quality food and that all legal requirements and specifications are shown to the customer. IFS Food also controls all traceability in manufacturing and the market, and its audits are carried out by highly qualified auditors specialising in food safety.
Obtaining the IFS Food certification also comes at a time of strong expansion for the company, with the launch of a new packaging line that will allow Nugape to achieve a production of up to 1,200 bags per hour and, together with other improvements, will allow in the near future to reach an annual production of 120,000 tonnes. Nugape is also working on various projects to improve the company’s environmental sustainability, such as the installation of heat pumps to reduce gas use and CO2 emissions or the installation of 5,000 m2 of photovoltaic panels.
