Microalgae support for sustainable production from Marin Biotechnology

Being the first and only company to produce microalgae on an industrial scale in Turkey, Marin Biotechnology supports sustainable feed production with Algome™ and Algome Grow™ microalgae products, which it produces independently from sea-based sources.

Marin Biotechnology, one of Turkey’s leading suppliers of microalgae and probiotics, contributes to the production of sustainable animal feed, especially with its production without using sea-based resources.

Görkem Koyun, the founder of Marin Biotechnology, which started R&D activities in Aydın in 2015 and started industrial production in 2017, points out that 1 metric ton of Algome™ and Algome Grow™ microalgae products, which they produce independently from sea-based sources, save the lives of 40 metric tons of fish from the sea.

“Currently, our monthly production volume is 15 metric tons of dry microalgae. In addition, we also have probiotic products for the agriculture and livestock industries, says Görkem Koyun  “Our monthly capacity is 100 metric tons in liquid form. With our probiotic products such as ProPoul™, ProAqua™, ProPet™, ProRumi™ and Silcorn™, we reach the main areas of the agriculture and livestock industries and create alternative solutions. No waste is produced as a result of our production, and all by-products are evaluated. In this sense, we realize an environmentally friendly and efficient production. For the new products we are working on, our priority is to develop biotechnological products with sustainable production technology,” he adds.

SOCIALLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY, INNOVATIVE PRODUCTION
Stating that they offer microalgae and probiotic products they have developed for the agriculture and livestock sector, especially aquaculture, to domestic and international markets, Görkem Koyun shares the following information about their company and production: “As MarinBio company, our adventure, which started with the aquaculture sector, continues today in the poultry (breeder, egg production and broiler), pet and ruminant side; we resolutely carry out R&D studies on animal health and performance. In this regard, we are the first and only company that produces these products on industrial scale in Turkey. We continue our work with an understanding of vision that is sensitive to society and the environment, innovative and acting with a sense of responsibility. In today’s conditions, 70% of the raw materials used in the fish feed produced by aquaculture in the world are provided from sea-based sources. In addition, if we also take into consideration that the sector grows by an average of 10% every year, we can say that it will not take long for the negative effects of this situation on the marine ecosystem to be felt.”

MarinBio company, which closely follows the researches of companies and universities on the development of the technological infrastructure necessary for the production of seafood to become fully sustainable, attaches great importance to maintaining its R&D activities in sync with the world.
