Layn Natural Ingredients showcases new feed ingredient at EuroTier 2024

Layn Natural Ingredients has announced the European-region launch of its new product TruGro® CGA, which aims to optimize piglet health and growth naturally during the post-weaning period. The company is demonstrating the product in Hall 21, Stand #G18 at EuroTier 2024, November 12 – 15.

Layn Natural Ingredients showcases new feed ingredient at EuroTier 2024One of the world’s largest innovators of natural botanical extract ingredients and solutions serving brands in food, nutraceutical, and animal and pet industries, has announced the European-region launch of TruGro® CGA, a feed ingredient derived from stevia leaf. The company explained that this innovative product addresses the challenges faced by swine producers in supporting the health and growth of piglets during the critical post-weaning period. Layn Natural Ingredients is demonstrating the product in Hall 21, Stand #G18 at the EuroTier tradeshow held in Hanover, Germany November 12 – 15, 2024.

TRANSFORMING POST-WEANING PIGLET CARE
The post-weaning period presents significant hurdles for piglets, marked by severe stress due to separation from the sow, dietary transitions, and environmental changes. These stressors often lead to oxidative cell damage, decreased performance, and higher instances of diarrhea, posing a challenge for swine producers.

Layn Natural Ingredients stated that TruGro CGA leverages the power of chlorogenic acids (CGA), known for their strong antioxidant properties, to mitigate these effects. This ingredient helps reduce oxidative stress in the intestinal lining, promoting better gut health, improved weight gain, and overall enhanced welfare for piglets.

“TruGro CGA represents a leap forward in natural swine nutrition,” said Juan Javierre, Senior Nutrition Scientist at Layn Natural Ingredients. “The ability to improve early-stage growth and reduce common post-weaning challenges like diarrhea can lead to more uniform growth and reduced production costs. TruGro CGA aligns with the industry’s shift towards sustainable, plant-based solutions that support animal welfare and operational efficiency.”

VALIDATED BY TRIALS
Extensive studies conducted by Layn in collaboration with 3rd-party research firms have shown compelling evidence of TruGro CGA’s efficacy. In trials involving piglets from weaning at 21 days to 70 days of age, the company unveiled that the following benefits were observed:
• Significant Weight Gain and Growth: Piglets fed diets supplemented with 200 ppm of TruGro CGA demonstrated statistically significant improvements in weight gain and average daily gain (ADG) during the first 21 days post-weaning, compared to those on a control diet. Light and medium weight piglets showed the most marked benefits, achieving up to 20% higher weight gain over standard breed expectations.
• Reduced Incidence of Diarrhea: The trial reported a substantial reduction in diarrhea cases, with the 200ppm group experiencing only 2.5% of cases compared to 38.1% in the control group. This improvement supports more efficient nutrient absorption and overall gut function.
• Enhanced Feed Efficiency: While feed intake variations were noted, the 200ppm dosage showed trends of improved feed efficiency, underscoring TruGro CGA’s potential to optimize feed conversion ratios.

The chlorogenic acids in TruGro CGA act as metabolic antioxidants that support enterocyte health by countering oxidative stress pathways, according to Layn’s statement. This supports a healthy inflammatory response and helps to stabilize gut integrity, as evidenced by improved expression of proteins like claudin-1 in the intestinal lining. The antioxidant action of TruGro CGA may help maintain a balanced gut environment, which is crucial for efficient piglet digestion and growth.

TruGro CGA is formulated to withstand common feed processing methods, including pelleting and extrusion, ensuring consistent efficacy during manufacturing and storage. The company pointed out that this stability, paired with its ease of integration into existing feed formulations, makes it an attractive addition for swine producers looking to elevate piglet performance naturally.

TruGro CGA is now available for swine producers worldwide looking to optimize piglet health and growth naturally, Layn stated. For more information or to meet with Layn’s animal nutrition experts, visitors can find the company at Stand #G18 in Hall 21 at the EuroTier event.
