NEWS 24 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE October 2025 dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health and FarmTrace, a global farm connection & analytics platform, made a strategic partnership to accelerate sustainable farming by removing one of the key barriers to environmental footprint measurement. The collaboration will enable direct integration of one of agriculture’s leading environmental footprinting solutions, Sustell™, with the FarmTrace platform, significantly simplifying the collection and processing of farm-level data. By automating the ingestion of information from connected farm systems, the partnership aims to remove the need for repeated manual inputs and complex questionnaires, empowering farmers and supply chains to scale their sustainability efforts with greater ease, speed and accuracy. David Nickell, Vice President Sustainability & Business Solutions at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health, said, “Farmers are being asked to do more than ever, and sustainability shouldn’t add complexity. Through our partnership with FarmTrace, we are enabling endto-end integration of accurate, real-time farm data into Sustell™, so we can focus on what we do best: translating data into actionable insights that drive environmental improvement.” Katherine Zambaldi, CEO of FarmTrace, remarked, “Sustainable food systems need scalable solutions. By linking our data infrastructure with Sustell™, we’re helping unlock value from existing farm technology and enabling sustainability insights without adding administrative burdens.” Read more>> The #NoBirdFlu toolkit, launched to coincide with the start of the new migratory season in Europe, aims to raise awareness about the importance of applying simple biosecurity steps, particularly on small and medium-sized farms. By adopting these measures, farmers will help to protect animal and public health, ensure food production stability, and minimize disruptions to trade. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) highlighted that the toolkit is the result of a joint effort with the European Commission (EC), reflecting a shared commitment to preventing outbreaks before they start and ensuring the sustainability of the EU poultry farming sector. “The launch of #NoBirdFlu highlights how preparedness today can prevent crises tomorrow,” said Nikolaus Kriz, EFSA’s Executive Director. “By working together we can protect our animals, secure food systems and build resilience against future health threats. EFSA is committed to provide the scientific advice needed to keep bird flu out of European farms.” “With winter approaching, and the threat of avian influenza rising, everyone must play their part in preventing new outbreaks. From farmers, workers and small flock holders, to vets and farm visitors, simple precautions can make a real difference in reducing the spread of this serious disease. This campaign provides practical guidance to help protect flocks and safeguard Europe’s poultry sector,” stated Claire Bury, Deputy Director General for Food Sustainability at the European Commission.
