NEWS 96 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE April 2025 Proteine Resources, the creator of a groundbreaking protein technology, announced it developed the world's first scalable beef analog with a 1:1 nutritional profile to real beef, cutting production costs by up to 50% - is ready to launch sales. Unlike other alt-protein approaches—cultivated meat, plant-based substitutes, and precision fermentation, which have attracted over USD 14 billion in investments yet remain costly or lower in quality, Proteine’s technology is quickly approaching market readiness. This cost-quality balance stems from five years of intensive R&D, resulting in a proprietary, cost-efficient technology without compromising on nutrition. The company’s business model relies on a network of modular, AI-driven mini-factories, with the first of many already under construction. Industrial meat production drives global warming, with beef alone emitting up to 375 kg of CO₂ equivalent per 1 kg of protein — the highest rates in the livestock sector. This impact grows in developed countries, where both humans and pets consume more beef, fueled by the trend of feeding pets human-grade meat. Intensive farming depletes resources, relies heavily on antibiotics, pesticides, and growth hormones, and subjects animals to harsh conditions. Additionally, many dogs and cats could be allergic to beef, highlighting the need for safer, more sustainable alternatives to address environmental, ethical, and health concerns. Registrations are open and the detailed agenda is available on the organization’s website. Scientists and industry experts will explore the latest developments in feed ingredients, feed formulations, and the growing strategic role of marine ingredients. They will provide updates on agri-commodities, fish oil, fishmeal, insect-based ingredients, and omega-3, with country and regional insights. A range of side events will address precision nutrition and certification programmes. The first day will focus on market supply, covering Agri-commodities markets (Rabobank), insects for feed and food (IPIFF), microplastics (Aquaspin), and the latest on IMO (International Maritime Organisation) Regulations. Discussion (only accessible to IFFO's Premium and Producer Members) will also include IFFO’s global overview on marine ingredient supply as well as regional/country updates from Europe, USA, Chile and Peru. The second day will focus on market demand drivers, exploring animal farming demand for marine ingredients. Audun Lem, Deputy Director at FAO, will set the scene with a macro perspective of the challenges and opportunities facing the seafood industry, followed by an overview of aquaculture trends (Kontali Analyse AS), and then insights from a feed producer (De Heus Animal Nutrition B.V) and a feed formulation expert (Wittaya Aqua). Industry updates will also be provided by IFFO on China, petfood (C&D Foods), fish oil (Marex Global Sourcing), and ending with a focus on omega-3 markets (GOED) and omega-3 fish nutrition (Nofima).
