With over 150 exhibitors from 35 countries and more than 1732 visitors from 60 countries, this year’s edition reportedly broke new ground, underscoring the importance of Africa, with Rwanda in the epicenter, in the global agriculture and livestock value chain. The event featured 40 specialized sessions, practical workshops, and networking opportunities, catering to a growing industry that supports sustainable practices in the region. Hosted at the Kigali Convention Centre from October 2-3, with a Leadership Conference preceding on October 1, the event saw record-breaking attendance and engagement, underscoring its growing significance as a key platform for advancing the future of African animal protein production, according to the organizers' statement. Over the course of the trade show, industry professionals, thought leaders, local youth and innovators came together to exchange knowledge, build partnerships, and showcase the latest trends and developments in animal husbandry and agricultural scene. VIV Africa 2024 saw strong participation from industry leaders, with over 200 key decision-makers from Africa and the global agri-food space attending the event. The Leadership Conference, a major highlight of this year’s program, featured presentations from over 50 thought leaders and facilitated discussions on issues such as global expertise and local practice, investment opportunities, and sustainable solutions in future trends. This prestigious award is presented annually to a feed facility demonstrating an outstanding commitment to quality, safety, productivity, regulatory compliance, employee development and customer relations. Through the Feed Facility of the Year program, the AFIA reportedly also raised approximately $14k for the Equipment Manufacturers Committee (EMC) scholarship, supporting the development of future leaders in the industry. “We were extremely impressed with the BioZyme Stockyards facility, as it is evident that the company and its staff exemplify the core values of the Feed Facility of the Year program,” says Gary Huddleston, AFIA’s Director of Feed Manufacturing and Regulatory Affairs. “The plant is a shining example of manufacturing excellence in the animal food industry.” BioZyme, an animal nutrition and microbiology company, has been driving innovation since 1951. Founded by Larry Ehlert, BioZyme began as Ehlert’s Guaranteed Feeds with just a $2,5k loan and a small feed store in St. Joseph. Today, BioZyme’s product line includes high-quality vitamin, mineral and protein supplements enhanced with Amaferm, a natural prebiotic. Under the management of Cody Jensen, the Stockyard plant produces 31,000 tons annually. The company hosted a special event with employees on October 31 to celebrate the achievement.
