NEWS 104 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE June 2024 Maple Leaf Foods closes its plant in Brantford, Ontario Maple Leaf Foods announced its decision to close its Brantford, Ontario plant and consolidate most of its Further Processed Poultry (FPP) production into its existing plant network through early 2025. Earlier this year, the company determined that this 100-yearold facility would likely require significant ongoing investment to continue long-term operations. “The decision to close any plant is one that we take very seriously,” said Curtis Frank, President and Chief Executive Officer, Maple Leaf Foods. “We are very proud of our team at Brantford and appreciate the great work they do each and every day.” The closure of the plant will be completed in a phased manner to maintain business continuity and meet customer demand. The company will work with the affected team members to provide support and assistance through this transition, including supporting other opportunities at other Maple Leaf Foods facilities. “Consolidating production into our current network allows us to reallocate our resources and increase our efficiencies by further optimizing the existing, more modern facilities in our network,” expresses Frank. “This supports our vision to be the most sustainable protein company on Earth and our commitment to produce world-class products safely and efficiently as we support the growth of our protein business.” Read more>> Eric Le Gall joins SFR team as Consultant Poultry Nutrition Schothorst Feed Research (SFR) announced the addition of Eric Le Gall to its team as a Consultant Poultry Nutrition, starting on the 21st of May. With a rich background in animal nutrition and extensive experience in the feed industry, Eric Le Gall brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the company. Le Gall, aged 40, hails from Brittany, France, where he was born and raised. He pursued his studies in animal science at ENSAIA in Nancy, graduating in 2006 as an “Ingénieur agronome,” equivalent to an MSc degree. Over the past 18 years, Eric Le Gall has dedicated his career to the feed industry, beginning as a feed formulator at ADM in St Nolff, France. He then spent nine years at Metex Animal Nutrition in Paris, promoting amino acid usage to feed producers and premixers. Most recently, Le Gall served as a nutritionist at Altilis Nutrition Animale in Muzillac, France. "Eric’s commitment to the industry and his collaborative spirit are evident in his previous work with some of our team members.
