The Chinese government allows foreign manufac- turers to export their pet food products to China after completing the necessary registration process. How big is pet food market in China for foreign manufacturers? At the moment, many overseas manufacturers, including those from Canada, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, and France, are exporting pet food to China. In the previous year 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued more than 630 pet food registration certificates for (dog and cats). According to the classification of products, there are at least 594 pieces of compound feed and the remaining 45 are from premixed feed (health products). Canada, New Zealand, account for more registra- tion following Belgium, Italy, Germany, the United States, Czech Republic, and France, Thailand, and Taiwan. The number is expected to grow this year and open door to foreign manufacturers to export to China. The pet food market is influenced by eco- nomic growth for a country and its love for pets. Chinese per capita income keeps on increasing every year which lead to an increase in disposable income, this leads to many Chinese to add pets as a new member in their families as a companion among young Chinese. Aged Chinese people are often with their pets during their time in the evening taking a walk or during their time to do physical exercise with other people around the community. It is estimated that in every 5 households in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai at least 2 people have a pet in their house which make pet food market potential in China with a market of more than 150 million people.
