Feed & Additive Magazine Issue 3 April 2021

NEWS 16 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE April 2021 B ASF’s sustainability analyt- ics enable the industry to dynamically assess the lifecycle environmental impacts to make animal protein production more sustainable. Adifo’s BESTMIX® software allows nutritionists and formulators to manage and opti- mize nutrition and cost attributes of feed and ration formulation. By integrating BASF’s sustain- ability analytics into BESTMIX®, customers along the animal agricul- ture value chain will be able to stra- tegically manage and optimize feed formulation based on nutrition and cost while taking environmental sustainability aspects into account. The key requirements of feed op- timization are an adequate nutri- tional content and minimum cost possible. This will not change. But the industry needs answers to the environmental impact issues. That is exactly why BASF and Adifo Software now partner on optimiz- ing feed formulation, supporting a more sustainable animal protein production. With this tool, the need for in depth consultancy studies, which are both expensive and time con- suming, are no longer necessary. This tool is essentially taking the environmental impact as a third di- mension in feed formulation, next to nutrition and costs. Nutrition- ists themselves now have full con- trol to make right choices in regard to reducing the environmental im- pact of their feeds and rations. Adifo, BASF partner on digital solution for sustainable feed production Adifo and BASF have launched a new digital solution for the animal agriculture value chain that integrates sustainability analytics powered by BASF’s Opteinics project into Adifo’s BESTMIX® feed formulation software. Cargill partners with farmers to protect oceans C argill has set a course to protect oceans, a vital ecosystem where the company helps to grow and move food around the world. Car- gill’s latest initiative, SeaFurther™ Sustainability, will help aqua farmers raise more sustainable sea- food with less environmental impact. It is part of the company’s overall carbon commitment, with a science-based scope 3 target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent per tonne of food by 2030. SeaFurther alone will help save two billion kilograms of CO 2 by 2030, which is the equivalent of removing more than 400,000 cars from the road. Cargill’s SeaFurther program will start with salmon farmers, who are focused on the role they play in ocean stewardship and addressing the sustainability of food systems, especially with relation to climate change. Through SeaFurther Sustainability, Cargill is set- ting the goal to reduce the footprint of farmed salm- on 30% by 2030. Today, feed represents up to 90% of a salmon’s environmental footprint. Cargill is partnering with farmers to chart new course in seafood sustainability, reducing the carbon footprint of fish farming and protecting oceans.
