NEWS 24 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2021 Merck Animal Health acquires Poultry Sense Ltd Merck Animal Health completed the acquisition of Poultry Sense Ltd, which provides enhanced health and environmental monitoring solutions for poultry producers. M erck Animal Health announced the com- pletion of its acquisition of Poultry Sense Ltd. from its founding shareholders. Poultry Sense Ltd. is an innovator in health and environmental monitoring solutions for the poultry industry. In March 2019, Merck Animal Health invested in Poultry Sense Ltd., to support their development. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Poultry Sense Ltd., a privately held company lo- cated in Exeter, U.K., provides enhanced technology for poultry farmers to continuously track and analyze overall health performance for the life of the flock; it provides users the capability to measure, compare and record key health and environmental indicators captured by battery-powered, wireless sensors in the poultry barn, as well as to identify patterns and trends to predict health and well-being and, ultimately, pre- vent disease and improve performance. This innovative technology is an important tool used to assess an animal’s health and well-being, which contributes to enhanced productivity and efficacy measures on the farm and, ultimately, to better food safety and security. The sensors allow farmers to monitor and assess vital parameters by measuring weight, water usage, humidity, light, temperature and carbon dioxide. Farmers can there- fore gain insight into the housing environment, as well as bird health and performance. Mosa Meat completes $85m Series B investment round M osa Meat, the European food technology com- pany that introduced the world’s first cultivated beef hamburger in 2013, announced the third and last closing of its Series B fund- ing. This third closing of $10m brings the total raised in the round to $85m. Investors in this last closing in- clude new and existing investors like Nutreco, a global leader in animal nutrition and aquafeed, and Jitse Groen, CEO of Just Eat Takeaway.com. The funding brings together leading global investors with a wealth of knowl- edge which will help Mosa Meat scale up real beef production in a sustainable and safe way. Mosa Meat will use the funds to extend its current pilot pro- duction facility at its home in Maastricht, develop an industri- al-sized production line, expand its team, and introduce delicious cultivated beef to consumers. The Series B funding round is led by Luxembourg-based Blue Horizon Ventures, the food tech- nology fund that aims to support and promote a positive global im- pact on the environment, human health, and animal welfare. Mosa Meat welcomes this strong group of mission-aligned investors after its successful Series A funding in 2018, which was led by M Ven- tures and Bell Food Group.
