NEWS FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2021 19 Darling Ingredients board member Charles Macaluso passes away D arling Ingredients Inc. regretfully an- nounced the passing of Charles Macaluso, a member of the board since 2002. “It is with great sadness that Darling Ingredients announces the passing of Charles Macaluso, long- time board member and friend on February 22, 2021”, the company said in a statement. Macaluso “Mac” joined the Darling board in 2002, where he faithfully served as a director in var- ious capacities. He most recently served as Lead Director and Chairman of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. “Mac was a dear friend and mentor to many of us at Darling and we are forever grateful for his many contributions over his nineteen years of service. Mac’s input and leadership was vital in driving unprece- dented growth and success at Darling,” said Randall C. Stuewe, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Darling Ingredients. “Mac will be greatly missed, and Darling employees and board members wish his fam- ily our sincerest condolences during this time.” For over 20 years, Macaluso served as a Principal of Dorchester Capital, LLC, a management consult- ing and corporate advisory service firm. Macaluso brought substantial experience from both private equity and public company exposure, serving on the boards of directors of numerous public companies. Brian Sikes named Cargill’s Chief Operating Officer Brian Sikes has been named chief operating officer (COO) of Cargill. In this role, he will also serve as a management director on the Cargill Board of Directors. S ikes joined Cargill’s exec- utive team in 2019, lead- ing the company’s global protein and salt enterprise. Prior to that, he spent four years leading the protein business in North Amer- ica, based in Wichita, Kan. Sikes joined Cargill in 1991, and has held leadership positions in the protein business in the U.S., Can- ada and Europe. He also led the company’s Talent Center of Ex- pertise and was responsible for advancing the company’s commit- ment to inclusion and diversity. “Brian is always thinking about our customers and innovative solutions that will exceed their expectations today and in the fu- ture. Equally so, he’s a people-first leader, with an unwavering com- mitment to health and safety, and builds diverse, inclusive teams that deliver strong results,” said David MacLennan, Cargill’s chairman and CEO. “This combination of a growth mindset and strength of leadership will help lead Cargill forward as we fulfill our purpose to nourish the world in a safe, re- sponsible and sustainable way.” Under Sikes’ leadership, Car- gill expanded its protein offer- ings around the world. Its global portfolio includes beef, poultry, eggs, seafood, value-add and spe- cialty products, as well as plant- based options and investments in cell-based protein technologies. Cargill also launched its BeefUp sustainability initiative to achieve a 30% greenhouse gas intensity re- duction across its North American beef supply chain by 2030, mea- sured on a per pound of product basis from a 2017 baseline.
