NEWS FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE May 2023 77 Ÿnsect, one of the world leaders in insect production, signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the LOTTE R&D centre, a Korean leader in the Tech industry. The MOU was signed by Guillaume Daoulas, Ÿnsect Food & Plant Sales Director, in the presence of Cho Juhyeon, Korean Vice-Minister for SMEs and Startups, at the “France – Korea” event organized by French Tech and the French Embassy in Korea on April 26th. The agreement includes conducting joint research to develop insect-based food products, working together to increase knowledge of edible insects’ health claims, and conducting and sharing surveys on “insects in human food” among consumers in Europe and South Korea. This partnership will enable Ÿnsect to accelerate its development in human food and expand its activity in Asia. The MOU between Ÿnsect and the LOTTE R&D centre represents a significant milestone in the development of insect-based food products and highlights the importance of cooperation between France and Korea in the Tech industry. TopHealth Plants, an organic seaweed-based biostimulant that naturally improves soil quality and health is used. It increases plant growth and resilience and thus indirectly reduces the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Colruyt Group will work with The Seaweed Company to study the applicability and benefits of using this biostimulant during the growing season. They will study whether the crops absorb the nutrients better and are thus healthier. The application of this biostimulant on own farm land in Moustier is in collaboration with local farmers. TopHealth Plants will be used on plots where winter barley and carrots are grown. This biostimulant is applied before sowing and is repeated several times during the growing process. Part of the soil will not be treated with the biostimulant and will serve as a basis for comparison. “Our main goal is to learn what effect the biostimulant has on soil health and crop resilience. We’re looking forward to the result so that we can hopefully scale up to our other farmland if positive. We also want to inspire other farmers with this project to make agriculture more sustainable,” said Saskia De Block, responsible for agriculture at Colruyt Group. Soil health will be one of the most important issues in the coming decades: how do we grow sufficient food while meeting increasing demands with increasingly less agricultural land.
