Technology, especially digital technology, is changing and transforming our personal and professional lives step by step. We've all experienced this one-on-one in communications, finance, retail, education, and many other fields for many years. Think about how technology has changed our communication and access opportunities, our habits and needs… What about the impact on our purchasing behaviour? There are many things we have transformed from physical habits to digital habits... I consider this new world, in which we are surrounded by digital technologies, as an unlimited quantitative and qualitative data bank. If you believe in science and agree with the idea that knowledge is power, you are also aware that this world provides you with "enormous opportunities." But how do these provide “enormous opportunities”? Let's try to explain this through the digital technologies that have become widespread in the animal nutrition industry. One of the most common digital tools in the industry is software developed for feed formulation. Most of the companies that produce feed have to make use of a feed formulation software today. Because in a highly volatile and competitive market, they are under serious pressure to produce the most nutritious feed for any animal species in the most economical way. The biggest determinant of feed costs is raw material. A raw material that is very affordable and available today may be very expensive or inaccessible tomorrow. In such a case, you may need to remove the raw material in question from the formula. It is quite difficult to manually determine both the more economical raw material to replace it and the necessary supplements to compensate for possible nutrient losses. However, digital technologies can allow you to do this very quickly, in a very short time, thanks to a database created in the light of scientific data and experience. Thanks to these technologies, you can measure your environmental footprint and identify how you can reduce it. Or you can revise it to increase your operating efficiency by comparing the data between the amount of feeding, its method and the amount, quality of animal food production. If you want to know more about this topic, this issue is for you. Valuable representatives of the industry from all over the world wrote down their experiences on both proper feed formulations and digital technologies for our readers. Hope this will be a useful issue that you will read with pleasure… Publisher Muhammed Akatay [email protected] Responsible Manager Özlem Buyruk Akatay [email protected] Editor-in-Chief Derya Yıldız [email protected] Editors Bahadır Büyükkılıç Burak Varol [email protected] Design Alper Kandemir [email protected] Web Design Caner Cem Pulat [email protected] Proofreading Lisa Atakul [email protected] Circulation and Data Responsible Amine Şengün [email protected] Ataturk St. Metropol Istanbul Ste. NEWS FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2023 7 meat, eggs, or dairy products safe in the knowledge it is coming from healthy animals.” Since the prophylactic use of antibiotics has been banned in Europe, many farmers are looking for alternative solutions to keep their animals healthy and productive. In addition to probiotics, various other product classes have become established, including phytogenics. Evonik Animal Nutrition adds plant-based PhytriCare® IM to its probiotics-based Gut Health Solutions portfolio. Farm animals – like all living creatures – are exposed to a variety of stress factors and respond by activating the body’s defense mechanisms. If the stress continues at a higher level for a longer period, it can lead to chronic inflammation. As a result, animal welfare suffers. The animal then uses an increased share of its energy and nutrients for the immune system rather than for beneficial activities, such as growth and performance – sometimes for months or years. Consequently, production efficiency decreases and the animal’s ecological footprint increases. “PhytriCare® IM was developed to prevent an overshooting of inflammatory reactions in sows, laying hens and dairy cows,” added Nicholas Guthier, head of EMEA Region & Global Key Accounts at Animal Nutrition. “After all, female animals are particularly stressed by reproductive processes anyway.” Read more>> AB Vista, a company offering pioneering products and technical services to the global animal feed industry, broadened gut-health portfolio with product acquisition from biosciences company Hankkija. NEWS 12 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2023 Animine scientific team participated in the “Sustainable Forages for Net-Zero in Livestock Production” meeting and presented “Evaluation of forages mineral composition with a new portable device”. According to Animine, this event, held in London, was the right moment to present Animine latest research outcomes on the calibration of the new AniGun® tool, based on the X-Ray Fluorescence technique. “One of the main limitations in precision formulation is that forages are extremely variable in mineral content and can contain antagonists that reduce the availability of some minerals (i.e. Cu, S, Mo and Fe). A quick and accurate assessment of the macro (P, Ca…) and micro-mineral (Zn, Cu, Mn…) composition in the ingredients of the ration is also extremely important to avoid nutritional imbalances, economic losses, and environmental impacts. For these reasons, Animine set the goal of providing analysis of minerals in forages with a portable device, usable on the field. For the calibration, samples of forages (grass, hay and grass silage) were collected. Forage macro and minerals mineral content was directly determined by AniGun®, and in parallel, samples were analyzed by wet chemistry technique (ICP-AES) in the INRAE lab,” Animine said in a statement. Read more>> Animine shares its latest research on calibration of AniGun tool CCPA Group, specializing in animal nutrition and health, announced that it developed the THERMO® range, nutritional solutions specific to each species, to be used in preventive or intervention, and digital solutions to anticipate and better manage the impact of high temperatures. The company drew attention to the high heat in its statement: “Earth just had the eight warmest year on record and in 2022 Europe recorded its hottest year. This climate has not been without consequences on the animals. Thus, in a single day of July in the West of France, the regional renderer Secanim collected 1 500 tonnes of poultry from 130 farms. In pigs, a decrease of 0.83 kg in slaughter weight was observed over the summer months compared to the same period in 2021. In dairy cows, the loss was estimated at 107 kg/month/ cow from June to September. The year 2023 has already started with temperature records and official bodies predict an even hotter summer than 2022. Faced with this, it is essential to set up a complete feeding and livestock management strategy to ensure their thermal comfort, support breeding performance and ensure the income of the farmer.” Read more>> CCPA prepares animal nutrition industry for high heat with new solutions

ISSUE FOCUS 18 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2023 TIPS FOR PREPARING PROPER FEED FORMULATIONS & CONTRIBUTION OF SOFTWARE & DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

ISSUE FOCUS FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2023 19 Advantages of feed formulation software Karel Vervaet, BESTMIX® Software Digital technology delivers decision-making data for feed formulators Vinicius Chiappetta, Cargill Synchronized technology & services inform precise feed formulations Julien Mailliu & Guillaume Olivier, ADM Animal Nutrition Minding the gap between quality management and feed formulation Ricardo Amaral, Optimal Tecnologias Revolutionizing animal health with computer-aided phytotherapy Naveed A Chikan, Daskdan Innovations Formulating animal feed rations with a Pearson Square Megan Van Emon, Montana State University

ISSUE FOCUS 20 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2023 ADVANTAGES OF FEED FORMULATION SOFTWARE “As a feed producing company the volumes to process, the legislation imposed and the time pressure to get feed to the market are so high you cannot do this without an appropriate tool. The fact that we deliver our software already close to 50 years to the industry is only more proof that the feed industry saw the need to digitize their data and processes.” BESTMIX® Software, formerly known as Adifo, is a company that develops a unique range of software tools specific to the food and feed industry. The software tools in the company's portfolio focus on topics such as the least-cost recipe formulation, quality data management, ration calculation, cloud services and ERP. BESTMIX® Recipe Management, one of the company's most important software, is widely used in the feed industry. Karel Vervaet, Senior Product Specialist of BESTMIX® Software, which has half a century of experience in its field, explained both the importance of the software in feed production and what the BESTMIX® Recipe Management software provides to users. Mr. Vervaet, can we say that software simply means collecting data, storing, analyzing and strategizing according to the analysis? If so, why is data important? Can you explain the importance of data in the feed production sector? No, I think software cannot be labeled like that. For sure software exists out there that fits the description, but if I look at our software, then of course the data is key, but the features you apply on the data, the representation of the input and output, the user experience you give to users when working with the software are equally important as the data itself. Correct information / data is important in any industry, also in feed production. Some of the data can be collected in an automated way, like for instance animal performance figures on farm. Other data needs to be managed by knowledgeable users, to allow to generate the desired output. A perfect example for this are for instance the requirements that will determine the outcome of a least cost formulation. Today's world is very changeable. For example, while any feed ingredient may be abundant and cost-effective one day, it may be the opposite another day, or a highly preferred ingredient today may be replaced by a new alternative tomorrow. How do such changes affect the feed industry and can software help keep pace with these changes quickly? How? The topic raised here is the day-to-day reality for our customers, and the feed industry as whole. The logistical challenge they face is to get the right raw materials Karel Vervaet Sr. Product Specialist BESTMIX® Software

ISSUE FOCUS FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2023 21 sources at the right moment at the right production location. With the help of our software, you can: • Make sure you have all the available input from ERP available in the formulation system (production forecast, current market prices, future market prices, contracted amounts with their prices etc) • Run simulations in BESTMIX® Recipe Management that will calculate which amounts to buy, when to buy them, and for which production location, and share this information again with the ERP system so the purchase department can take the appropriate actions • Anticipate and prevent that big fluctuations in either quality or price have a too big impact on the feed being produced and delivered on farm Another issue is the change of priorities. Due to the increasing competitive environment, cost-effective production is extremely important. On the other hand, factors such as sustainability and environmental impact are intensely on the agenda today. Can you tell us what the software offers to feed producers at the point of providing all these together? Sustainability is ‘the’ talk of the industry at the moment. The pressure to be more sustainable is very high, both from the government, but also from the consumer side. When looking at sustainability you have to consider the entire value chain, so not only producing feed in a more sustainable way, but also consider what happens on farm, in the slaughterhouse, right up to the retail. Furthermore, it is also important to not only look at the carbon footprint, because also in the animal production this only represents a small peace of the total impact. Another important topic here is objectiveness or certification. You need to be able to guarantee when you calculate the environmental footprint, that there is a way consumers can validate the outcome. Therefore, we partner with experts in the industry. BESTMIX® Recipe Management itself does not have the capability to calculate the environmental footprint, but our partners do, and we display the result during the formulation of a recipe or a feeding program. As a user you then have the opportunity to deep dive into the sustainability figures. In our latest release we also added optimization on environmental footprint to the software. Since this will impose extra constraints on the price, you have the ability to define what price increase you allow to realize a better environmental footprint. What is the usage rate and prevalence of software and digital technologies in the feed industry? Can you share your general impressions on this subject, especially in the regions you serve? BESTMIX® SpecTrack meets the demand for transparency, traceability, and quality assurance

ISSUE FOCUS 24 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2023 within the food, petfood and animal feed industry. Moreover, this platform integrates with your recipe formulation, which contributes to efficiency and flexibility in your organization What do you think is an efficient and proper feed formulation? What should be paid attention to when choosing and using a software for this? When looking for software in general I think some aspects are important: • Technology used • Customer service availability (phone, online, FAQ, …) • References in the same industry • Local presence of the vendor • Knowledge level of the software vendor • Innovations and update delivered by the vendor on the software • Languages in which the software is available • Protection of the data entered in the system • Backup / disaster recovery in case something goes wrong • Ultimately of course also the pricing will be an aspect to consider, although in my opinion not the most important one. More important is to have a close look at the ROI of the investment • User experience, ease of use • Is the software scalable, meaning if you grow as a company, is the software and hardware setup capable of following the same growth • Flexible reporting capabilities For feed formulation software more specific I think following aspects could be of importance: • Security/authorization: who can access certain data • Performance of certain workflows, how efficient can you manage recipes • Integrated labeling solution • Ability to formulate big amounts of recipes at the same time (several thousands in some cases) to be able to do the what if scenarios as mentioned higher in the doc • Strong integration with other software (MES, quality systems, ERP, …) • When applicable, combine ration calculation, feed optimization, premix formulation in one tool • Advanced formulation techniques available: - Work with enzymes - Integer optimization - Non-linear optimization - …. We are talking about many advantages of software. But can anyone use the software developed for feed formulation, etc.? Does it require special expertise to use them? Based on your own software solutions, can we also touch on the simple interface and ease of use? I think anybody can work with feed formulation software. Of course, you will need the proper training and guidance to be able to complete your daily work. Depending on your role in the company you will need specific knowledge. Needless to say that if you do not have nutritional knowledge it will be hard to manage recipes in a correct way. The software should be designed in such a way, that any user, with limited effort can truly experience al the benefits of our tools. ISSUE FOCUS 26 FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE March 2023 “Technology can help determine the best formulation by helping you understand ingredient nutrient levels as they arrive at the feed mill and how to change and adapt the formulation based on how the nutrient levels change.” As new consumer demands and regulations arise, feed formulation complexity increases, as does the need to better optimize the cost of feed. In addition, animal welfare and sustainability variables must be considered in the formulation process. To make the best decisions, the use of digital solutions is key. Still, it may seem like too many digital technologies to wade through to deploy confidently for feed formulation. Technology can help determine the best formulation by helping you understand ingredient nutrient levels as they arrive at the feed mill and how to change and adapt the formulation based on how the nutrient levels change. Technology can help you use this data to select the best and most reliable suppliers to deliver the precise formulation needed for animals. But before tech deployment, you must be mindful of your overall strategy. Look at how you reach your customers, consider the ingredient market, and explore all the scenarios available to optimize margins. In some cases, a formulation might be more expensive, but this will drive more results and profitability. Or you may need to build a diet that has less carbon output. Whatever digital solution you deploy should align with that strategy. Here are some technologies helpful for feed formulation: Digitalized mycotoxin data: Tap into a large dataset tied to species, region, and ingredient to solving one of our industry's biggest ongoing systemic threats. You can access a comprehensive report for free taken from more than 300,000 data points through Cargill's world mycotoxin report. Near-infrared technology (NIR): Use NIR to precisely estimate and analyze the nutritional levels of different animal feed ingredients to formulate diets more precisely. Today NIR is available through benchtop NIRs, handheld NIRs and inline NIRs. In addition, NIR analytics and mathematical modeling advancements are now connected to the NIR instruments to measure nutrient digestibility, a better predictor of nutrient availability that supports faster and more efficient growth. Precision nutrition platforms: Get real-time, accurate data that uses extensive research and development expertise. This data supports mathematical models to precisely calculate nutrient levels of ingredients beyond traditional NIR analysis for more precise nutritional design and formulation.
