NEWS FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE January 2023 77 A-Systems, which publishes specialised software geared toward the feed formulation industry, has launched an innovation available in Allix Formulation Software. The innovation offers Allix's users the opportunity to take into account environmental criteria in animal feed production. The company explained the multi-objectives optimisation in Allix as follows: Some databases can attribute environmental values to most raw materials used in animal feed production. These values, obtained through analysing the life cycle of the raw materials, can be used in formulation as they are additive variables. The impact of a mix of raw material will therefore be the sum of the impacts of each ingredient, weighed by the incorporation rate in the mix. It is thus already possible to calculate, and limit, the environmental impact of the feed. In formulation software, this can be done by creating characteristics in raw materials that, as a standard nutrient, will describe the environmental values of the ingredient. For example, the carbon footprint linked to the production of the raw material, its impact of deforestation, and so on. Formulas will then be optimised on least cost and the environmental criteria will be evaluated, with eventually maximum constraints on some of the criteria. Thorsteinsson has been managing the business for the past few years as the CEO of Alda Seafood Holding. In 2018 the domestic and foreign operations of Samherji were separated into two independent companies, Samherji hf. and Samherji Holding ehf. Subsequently, all assets related to the fishing industry in Europe and North America were transferred under Alda Seafood, a subsidiary of Samherji Holding. The ownership remained unchanged. An agreement has now been reached on the sale of the assets of Alda Seafood to a Dutch company under the management and majority ownership of Baldvin Thorsteinsson. Pending routine procedures and approvals, the company will control Alda Seafood's holdings in fishing companies in Europe and North America. Samherji Holding invested in Eimskip hf., a leading transportation company in the North Atlantic, in 2018. The shares in Eimskip have now been transferred to the holding company Seley ehf. which is owned by the same shareholders that own Samherji Holding. Therefore, the shares in Eimskip hf. are not part of the transaction with Thorsteinsson's company. Read more>> Baldvin Thorsteinsson acquires Samherji's foreign operations Baldvin Thorsteinsson
