NEWS FEED & ADDITIVE MAGAZINE September 2022 69 Tyson Foods breaks ground for $180M facility expansion Tyson Foods has broken ground on an expansion project at its Caseyville prepared foods facility that will increase automation and create 250 new jobs. Tyson Foods leadership celebrated the $180 million investment project that will help meet growing demand for Tyson Foods’ iconic Hillshire Farm® and Jimmy Dean® branded products. The first line is expected to begin production this fall with the expansion set to be completed in the summer of 2023. “We’re thrilled to celebrate the expansion of our Caseyville prepared foods plant, creating new job opportunities for those in the community and keeping ease and efficiency in mind for our current team members,” said Noelle O’Mara, Group President, Prepared Foods, Tyson Foods. “With automated warehousing and robotics at the heart of the project, we’re looking forward to its full completion. The project will be completed in phases with the majority of work being complete by summer 2023. The Caseyville plant currently produces Hillshire Farm® and Jimmy Dean® products and the 170,000 square foot expansion will specifically allow a larger production of grab-n-go snacking and breakfast items. Elanco Animal Health Incorporated and AgNext at Colorado State University have announced a strategic alliance as part of a continued commitment to pioneer sustainability solutions for the animal agriculture, transforming the next frontier of opportunity in livestock sustainability. As part of the strategic alliance, Elanco’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Dr. Sara Place, will join the AgNext team and transition to her new role as associate professor of feedlot systems. Colorado State’s AgNext program is a firstof-its-kind research collaborative that focuses specifically on sustainability in animal agriculture, working with members of the entire value chain to develop innovative, scalable solutions that help move the industry toward a more sustainable future. The program seeks to create a world-renowned center for excellence, identifying and scaling innovation that fosters the health of animals and ecosystems to promote profitable industries that support vibrant communities. As associate professor in feedlot systems, Dr. Place will continue to build on the work she has accomplished with Elanco, seeking to further the science and solutions around sustainable opportunities in feedlot systems, while building the next generation of talent. Elanco will continue to collaborate with Dr. Place and the Colorado State team, engaging in collaborative research and leveraging AgNext’s insights. The move continues Elanco’s efforts to lead and transform the livestock sustainability space. Elanco is committed to be the livestock producers’ lead partner as they navigate towards climate neutral production – through innovation, analytics, value creation and advocacy. Elanco recently announced the launch of UpLook™, an insights engine designed to benchmark and measure improvement of an operation’s carbon footprint. Elanco also recently added several emission reducing products to its pipeline and portfolio and helped create a start-up company, called Athian to help the industry certify, aggregate and monetize credits from systems like UpLook.
