He referred to the recent decision on Solidarity Lanes to facilitate grain exports from Ukraine and the possibility to grow crops in Ecological Focus Areas in 2022 and possibly also in 2023. During the event, two panel sessions were held. In the first panel, participants analyzed how EU food and feed autonomy and the resilience of the agri-food chain can be strengthened. The second expert panel discussed the European Commission proposal on deforestation-free supply chains as well as bring practically feasible soy value chain solutions to the table to achieve the Green Deal objectives on Biodiversity. The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) has announced it will rename its operations in Scotland to Bakkafrost Scotland. The Scottish Salmon Company was acquired by Bakkafrost in 2019. The corporate focus for the past two years has been to align the businesses and develop its core capabilities in Scotland. “The renaming of the Scottish operations will ensure that the Group operates as ‘One Company’, with two regions of production. The ambition is to become Scotland’s leading most sustainable salmon producer and our sustainability strategy will totally transform the business, its impact on the environment and deliver leading standards of fish health and welfare,” the company said in a statement. “As an integral part of the fiveyear investment and sustainability plan, the Bakkafrost Group has committed to an investment programme of £711million to increase our output of premium salmon by more than 40%. A substantial proportion of this investment will be made in Scotland”, the statement added. With this investment, done through its agribusiness subsidiary Jerónimo Martins Agro-Alimentar, S.A., Jerónimo Martins Group becomes, with 10.1% of the Company’s shares, one of the largest shareholders in Andfjord Salmon, located at Kvalnes on the island of Andøya on the Arctic Archipelago of Vesterålen, Norway. “Just a few days before the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon, we are investing in a promising and truly innovative sustainable business project that is fully aligned with our corporate responsibility priorities,” says Pedro Soares dos Santos, Jerónimo Martins Chairman and CEO. “ “We are delighted to attract such a major industrial investor to Andfjord Salmon.
