NEWS Alternative Proteins Magazine April 2025 75 Loopworm receives authorization to supply ingredients to EU Loopworm, a pioneering company in sustainable insect-based nutrition, secured the EU TRACES certification for its Silkworm Pupae-derived products for both pet and animal nutrition. With approval number CAPEXIL/SR/PAC/ABPPET/2425/402, Loopworm is now fully authorized to supply its innovative, sustainable ingredients to the EU market. This milestone positions Loopworm, which operates a GMP+, ISO 22000, and HACCP-certified facility with a 6,000 metric tonnes per annum capacity, as a key player in the EU market for sustainable protein sources. The certification process, facilitated by the expert guidance of DGFT officials, AQCS Bangalore, and CAPEXIL Chennai, was completed efficiently within just a few months. Co-founder & CEO, Ankit Alok Bagaria, expressed his excitement: “Receiving the EU TRACES certification is a significant milestone validating our commitment to quality and compliance to international standards. Europe is an exceptional market for sustainable, high-quality ingredients, and we are eager to meet the growing demand for sustainable nutrition in pet and animal feed.” Since the commercial launch of Loopworm’s LoopFactory in April 2024, the company has already been supplying multiple truckloads of its protein and fat products monthly, primarily to the Asian aquaculture market. Steffen Bersch, an experienced industry expert, has been appointed by the company for livestock equipment. The 55-year-old had his first day at the company on April 17, 2025. Bernd Meerpohl resumes his role as Chairman of the Supervisory Board with immediate effect. He served as interim CEO of Big Dutchman AG from 1 October 2024, after Dr Frank Hiller left the company. Regarding the appointment, Bernd Meerpohl said: “We are delighted that we have been able to find an extremely competent candidate for this vacancy so quickly. With his professional expertise and down-toearth personality, Steffen Bersch is an excellent fit for our family business. He has worked in food production, agricultural engineering and logistics for many years. He has international experience but is also familiar with the region. I would like to wish Steffen Bersch all the best and thank Jürgen Steinemann for his work as interim Chairman of the Supervisory Board.” Steffen Bersch studied food technology in the old Hanseatic city of Lemgo. The graduate engineer worked for the GEA Group for almost twenty years in various roles, including three years in the United Arab Emirates. In the final around four years of his time with the GEA Group, Bersch served as a member of the Executive Board, with responsibility for agricultural engineering topics, among others.
