CCPA prepares animal nutrition industry for high heat with new solutions

CCPA Group has developed new solutions to preserve the comfort of animals and their performance in summer periods when high heats are expected.

CCPA prepares animal nutrition industry for high heat with new solutionsCCPA Group, specializing in animal nutrition and health, announced that it has developed the THERMO® range, nutritional solutions specific to each species, to be used in preventive or intervention, and digital solutions to anticipate and better manage the impact of high temperatures.

The company drew attention to the high heat in its statement: “Earth just had the eight warmest year on record and in 2022 Europe recorded its hottest year. This climate has not been without consequences on the animals. Thus, in a single day of July in the West of France, the regional renderer Secanim collected 1 500 tonnes of poultry from 130 farms. In pigs, a decrease of 0.83 kg in slaughter weight was observed over the summer months compared to the same period in 2021. In dairy cows, the loss was estimated at 107 kg/month/cow from June to September. The year 2023 has already started with temperature records and official bodies predict an even hotter summer than 2022. Faced with this, it is essential to set up a complete feeding and livestock management strategy to ensure their thermal comfort, support breeding performance and ensure the income of the farmer.”

THERMO®, A RANGE OF NUTRITIONAL SOLUTIONS SPECIFIC TO EACH SPECIES
According to the company, Thermo® solutions make it possible to fight against the impacts of heat stress (decreased feed intake, degradation of intestinal integrity, electrolyte losses). But, in addition, they have demonstrated a direct action on the significant decrease in body temperature in dairy cows and pigs. This year, a new trial conducted in Israel enriches the Thermo®Plus dossier, the solution for ruminants. It demonstrated improved milk production and dry matter intake in supplemented dairy cows as well as increased enzymes related to cell protection. In swine, a new Mexican trial confirms improved performance in animals receiving Thermo®Control.

THERMO®PLAN AND THERMO®RANGE TOOLS TO HELP PROFESSIONALS ANTICIPATE SUMMER 2023
Two decision support tools are used by CCPA teams in their support of Thermo partners: Thermo®Plan and Thermo®Range.

The Thermo®Plan tool accurately and locally analyzes the level of heat stress exposure of animals based on meteorological data. Its update with the temperatures of 2022 highlighted that the animals in France were subjected to an additional day per month of the summer to an environment at risk for their comfort and performance, for a total of 90% of the time over the months of July and August. At the same time, the Thermo®Range tool makes it possible to predict the quantities of products needed according to the size of the herd and local risk levels. This year, the tool is enriched by allowing the calculation for Deltavit nutritional specialties.

CHORUS, THERMAL COMFORT INCLUDED IN THE RATIONING SOFTWARE
Nutrition plays a key role in helping animals fight heat stress. A new thermal comfort parameter has been included in Chorus, CCPA’s rationing software for ruminants, which allows energy, protein and micronutrient recommendations to be adapted to this particular context.
