Animine discusses copper, zinc in swine nutrition at DPP Symposium

Animine hosted a satellite symposium during the DPP 2022 Symposium held in Rotterdam. Experts discussed a holistic approach for swine nutrition and health during the session, which focused on copper and zinc.

Animine discusses copper, zinc in swine nutrition at DPP SymposiumThe 15th International Symposium on Digestive Physiology of Pigs (DPP) was held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands between May 17th and 20th 2022. After being postponed initially, this scientific conference could finally occur in a very warm atmosphere in the Dutch city of architecture.

Prior to the conference, the organizing committee selected three satellite symposia among which Animine, the French supplier of precision minerals was present. Several experts discussed a holistic approach for swine nutrition and health during the Animine satellite symposium, which focused on copper and zinc.

First, the very unique mode of action of the monovalent copper CoRouge® was revealed. Mechanisms by which copper acts as a growth promoter in monogastric are still very vague for most sources present on the market: pre- or post-absorption effect, that is the question! At DPP, Dr. Alessandra Monteiro of Animine, backed up by a robust study in collaboration with the universities of Illinois, Kiel and Barcelona, explained how CoRouge® first modulates microflora to reduce microbial bile salt hydrolase production and activity. This pre-absorption effect is later during digestive processes potentiated by a post-absorption effect consisting in preserving hepatic functions essential for lipids digestibility.

In the session dedicated to the replacement of pharmacological zinc oxide, three different speakers presented transversal information to compare zinc sources available on the market. From the holistic nutritional approach proposed by Prof. Jürgen Zentek from Berlin University (including Hizox® potentiated zinc for gut integrity), to the meta-analysis of 77 peer-reviewed articles on zinc sources presented by Prof. Paolo Trevisi from Bologna University and to the combination of 9 trials presented by Prof. Yulong Yin, the audience could understand the very high consistency of Hizox® product effects. A ranking of zinc sources efficacy on piglets’ growth and diarrhoea could also be proposed.

Finally, with this symposium, Animine demonstrates that there is still room for research and innovation in the field of trace elements. Offering innovative sources with no equivalence on the market, the company provides a full range of new domains to be explored. Beyond bioavailability largely achieved by most sources for more than 15 years now, Hizox® and CoRouge® also deliver microflora modulation with positive impacts on their host metabolism.
