Aker invests in offshore aquacultureAker Capital AS invests in offshore aquaculture through SalMar Aker Ocean AS. Participating in an equity financing round in the post-smolt salmon producer Gaia Salmon Holding AS, Aker announced that it will invest NOK 155 million (approximately US$ 15.5 million) for 25.3% ownership in the company. Rodo Landbasert AS holds approximately 45% ownership of Gaia but Aker has the right to increase its ownership in Gaia Salmon related to potential next steps of development in the company.

Gaia Salmon is building a post-smolt production facility at Træna, Norway, with annual capacity of up to 7,200 tonnes of post-smolt.

In conjunction with Aker’s direct investment in Gaia Salmon, SAO has signed a non-binding agreement with Gaia Salmon for delivery of post-smolt for offshore salmon farming. The strategic cooperation will improve SAO’s access to post-smolt, which is an enabler for scaling offshore farming operations.
